Athletes with a Disability
BC Athlete Assistance Program

The Athletes with a Disability component of the BC AAP provides financial support for British Columbia athletes with a disability striving to achieve podium performances while representing British Columbia.

Program Objectives

The objectives of the Athletes with a Disability component of the BC AAP are:

  • to focus support to athletes in the “training to compete” and “training to win” stages as identified in the No Accidental Champions supplement to Canadian Sport for Life – Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD);
  • to contribute to improved performances of Team BC at the Canada Games;
  • to help increase the number of British Columbia athletes with a disability reaching federal carding status thus expanding British Columbia representation on national teams and at the Paralympic Games; and
  • to help increase the number of British Columbia athletes representing Canada at the Summer and Winter Special Olympic World Games and the Summer and Winter Deaflympics.

Application Process and Forms

Each eligible PSO (list provided in BC AAP PSO or Athletes with a Disability Guidelines, Policies and Procedures document) will have developed sport specific selection criteria based on the criteria outlined in the BC Athlete Assistance Program guidelines, policies and procedures document. This document as well as the Athlete Application Form can be downloaded from the links on the right. Visit your PSOs website or contact them to get information on the BC AAP sport specific selection criteria.
