Sport and Recreation
Sports Volunteering
Sport and recreation depend on volunteers.
Without them, amateur sport simply couldn’t
happen. For more information about volunteers
and volunteering, see the
Volunteer BC or
Volunteer Canada website.
Volunteers carry out virtually every key function in
sport, from coaching to providing transportation. They
have a key role to play in creating a safe environment
for kids in sport, ensuring that sport activity is free
from abuse and violence. That’s one reason why volunteer
screening is important.
Those who organize sport and recreation activities
have a responsibility to protect participants, staff and
volunteers. One way to do this is to provide a screening
process to evaluate volunteers so you can identify and
exclude anyone who might pose a risk to participants or
other volunteers or staff.

Guide to Screening Volunteers
