Community Care Facility Licensing Program

What’s New?

The Community Care Facilities Licensing program is responsible for regulating and monitoring community care facilities (both public and private). Facilities are inspected regularly to ensure compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act and Adult Care Regulations to determine if minimum health and safety requirements are being followed with respect to policies, staffing, resident care, building requirements and others. In addition, follow up is done in response to items that need to be corrected, complaints, allegations of abuse, and reportable incidents.

As of November 18 2008, health authorities in BC have begun to post the results of inspections of seniors residential care facilities licensed under the Community Care and Assisted Living Act. Public reporting such as this is another step toward increased accountability and transparency of seniors health care in BC.

The inspection reports on the sites provide the licensee and the public with information regarding any regulatory requirements that are not met and will show when the issue(s) have been resolved.

Visitors to the sites are encouraged to browse the history of the facilities and do other research such as contacting the facility or the local health authority licensing branch before arriving at any conclusions. Visitors to this site are cautioned against interpreting the status of a particular facility based solely on the inspection. The websites have been designed to convey similar information to the general public as they would receive through a request under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act of B.C.

What will the inspection reports tell me?

Each website provides a searchable database of all residential care facilities that serve primarily seniors under the Community Care and Assisted Living Act. You can find facilities within a desired area and see information on a facility, like the facility’s address, capacity, contact information, routine inspection and follow-up to routine inspection findings.
